My sister-in-law, Chelsea, is hosting an alternative gift fair later this month. It is to create a Christmas shopping party for her community with products that either directly or indirectly work in and fight against world-wide sex trafficking and human slavery. You can read more about what she is passionate for here. Anyway she asked me to create some cards to sell at the fair. I created 48 unique cards. Here are the results.

These are my two favorite art pieces of the week. I would totally buy this shirt if it wasn’t $18 and if the ship wasn’t placed in such an awkward position. I also really enjoyed this beautiful art print of the peacock.

I attended DC week today. To learn more go to their website: DC Week. There were a lot of different keynotes and lectures. Some were great! Others were a little….interesting.

One of my favorites was the keynote “future media trends” with David Shing from AOL. I took studious notes:

Then there was the Creative direction panel. A little more meander-y IMO. There were all these gobo lights of the sponors on the wall which somehow worked their way into my notes…

I also really enjoyed the social media and analytics panel session. I did take notes, but also did a few doodles:

And finally there was an HTML5 panel that I thought was good, but maybe a little too over my head. However, I did enjoy drawing the multiple outlines of my hands from two lights projecting onto my paper. I added some color in photoshop to show you an idea of what it looked like:

I like to draw flowy unstructured letters. Here’s a great quote I heard that I drew out on a plane ride recently. Click on the photo to see it enlarged.

So, I’ve been struggling lately to find a project that I can commit to and be passionate about. I really enjoy packaging and copying things from real life, but I’m don’t just want to copy someone else’s idea. If you have any thoughts or ideas for me, please share. Meanwhile, some recent work:

I bought some new pens the other day and did two drawings. I love drawing. I think I might want to work as a part-time freelance illustrator and part time at a design firm. We’ll see. Anyway, the scanner was really bad, so forgive the bad quality.

I found this blog called Obsessive Consumption. Anyway, it is just full of drawings of things she buys everyday. I love the drawings because they are similar in style to the kind of drawings that I do. Anyway, I think she has a store somewhere, but also has published a book I believe. Anyway, it has encouraged me a lot to do more of the art that I love. Enjoy!
